Blue is the Colour…

A custom-designed dressing room by Clive Christian

Blue has long been a popular choice in interior design: calming and tranquil, it complements a wide range of materials and textures. Clive Christian’s Head of Design Oliver Deadman talks us through the enduring appeal of blue in kitchens and living areas – and reveals the surprising pops of colour coming into play in more intimate spaces in the home.

“Blue tones – navies, teals and marines – lend themselves really nicely to the natural hues of timber. Walnuts and oaks take blues and greens beautifully well; the natural colour variance provides great harmony.”

Our approach to design at Clive Christian is always timeless rather than trend-led, but we are keen to observe the ebb and flow of client demand when it comes to particular materials, collections and styles.

One colour that is proving enduringly popular in our kitchens and living spaces is blue. According to Clive Christian’s Head of Design Oliver Deadman, “Blue tones – navies, teals and marines – lend themselves nicely to the natural hues of timber. Walnuts and oaks take blues and greens beautifully well; the natural colour variance provides great harmony.”

Clients are choosing to incorporate blue particularly in entertaining spaces, such as kitchens and lounges. Clive Christian’s fully bespoke service allows us to offer any shade of blue finish on our cabinetry and joinery. This can be complemented by soft furnishings, paintwork and even LED lighting.

In keeping with the warmth and tranquility of blue, soft textures and natural finishes are also proving popular, according to Deadman. In particular, Clive Christian is seeing heightened demand for materials like linens, suedes, stonework and marble to create comfortable and timeless spaces that can be used to entertain families and friends.

We’re seeing a striking contrast in more personal spaces, however, such as dressing rooms, libraries and studies. Here, clients are choosing to introduce bold colour pops, leather accents, and a variety of textures, including lacquer and lustre.

Vibrant colours might pay tribute to a particular luxury brand – such as Hermes orange and Louboutin red. One client chose a bright, pillar box red for his dressing room, to create an inner sanctum that is undeniably personal to him. These colours can inject cosy spaces such as bars, cigar rooms and walk-in wardrobes with flair and boisterous energy.

Through unique interplays of colour and texture, Clive Christian continues to redefine the boundaries of personalisation in interior design, creating spaces that are not just highly functional but also deeply reflective of individual style.

All Clive Christian Furniture rooms are designed around the client's specific requirements, and the scale and proportion of the appliances. For further information or to make an enquiry, please contact us.
