Order, Order: How to Organise Your Home with Clive Christian Interiors

New year, new utility room?

A new year often brings a new resolve to impose order on our homes. It’s a time for decluttering, organising and restoring a little calm after the excess and busy-ness of Christmas.

For some time now at Clive Christian, we’ve been seeing a growing demand for dedicated spaces like utility rooms, pantries and boot rooms that allow clients to organise their belongings and streamline their daily routines.

All about efficiency

More time spent at home since the Covid pandemic, along with the popularity of decluttering experts like Marie Kondo, means many of us are adopting a more minimalist approach to our home and our belongings.

This trend underscores an increasing focus on cleanliness and organisation within the home. As busy homeowners seek to enhance the usefulness of their space and reduce waste, these well-thought-out and purposeful utility spaces have become essential elements in contemporary interior design.

A place for everything…

Clive Christian works with clients to design and integrate features such as boot racks, shelving units, storage cabinets and pull-out ledges designed for baskets, allowing us to deliver on the mantra ‘a place for everything and everything in its place’.

Security features first

Security plays a part too: kitchens and living spaces can include discreet drawer safes for car keys, watches and other valuables. Our designers use special lining materials to prevent key cloning while charging drawers let you juice your devices while keeping them out of harm’s way (and temptation’s reach).

Designing your dream larder

In the kitchen, the popularity of the statement larder further reflects the growing desire for an ordered home. Integrated spice racks, door shelves and divided drawers mean no more rummaging around for the ingredients you need. A beautifully ordered larder is more than just a pretty Instagram post: it makes it easier to produce healthy and inventive meals when you’re short on time.

Custom clothing storage

Clients are looking for innovative ways to organise their clothing and accessories, too. Clive Christian’s dressing rooms can be custom-designed to accommodate extensive collections of shoes, clothing and watches. For a recent project in a Mayfair townhouse, we created multiple pullout shelves with dividers and drawer inserts to accommodate sunglasses, costume jewels, scarves and watches.

Another project featured hat storage with turned walnut stands, a grooming drawer, a deep drawer ‘dry bar’ with removable tray and compartmental storage, and ample space to house polished Oxfords and starched shirts.
