In Conversation with Iconic Landscapes
We are proud to have collaborated with Iconic Landscapes on the design of our garden at 1 Sydney Place. We caught up with Alex Bayman, owner and managing director of Iconic Landscapes to hear more about the brand, his story and what luxury means to him.
How does Iconic Landscapes embody craftsmanship in its work?
At Iconic Landscapes, we pride ourselves on the exceptional craftsmanship evident in every garden we create. Our entire team is dedicated to achieving a singular vision: delivering superior quality in all our finished projects. As a team we ensure that every stage of the process meets our high standards.
Our team comprises expert artisan stone craftsmen, skilled hard landscapers as well as knowledgeable soft landscapers, each bringing their specialised talents to the table. Additionally, we are committed to using only the finest materials available, from premium stone and paving to top-quality plants. This collective effort and attention to detail ensure that each garden we design and build is a testament to our unwavering commitment to excellence.
Can you tell us more about the brand’s commitment to sustainability?
At Iconic Landscapes, we recognize the critical importance of sustainability in all aspects of life, and we strive to reflect this in our work and garden creations.
We source our plants from UK and European growers, ensuring they arrive in recyclable pots and peat-free compost. For our hard landscaping materials, we prioritize recycling and reusing materials on-site whenever possible.
By carefully planning deliveries in collaboration with our suppliers, we not only minimize transport costs but also reduce traffic pollution. Our commitment to sustainability extends to designing and building beautiful green spaces for our clients, all while working diligently to keep our environmental impact as minimal as possible.
What does luxury mean at Iconic Landscapes?
At Iconic Landscapes, luxury goes beyond mere comfort and elegance. We understand that true luxury is deeply personal, reflecting each client’s unique tastes and preferences. Our designers work closely with clients to grasp their individual styles, likes, and dislikes.
Poorly designed outdoor spaces can feel cold, damp, and uninspiring. In contrast, we strive to create gardens that are not only visually stunning from every window but also inviting extensions of the home where clients love to spend time. Luxury is an experience evoked by one's surroundings, and a carefully chosen mix of stone paving can instantly create a sense of opulence.
Meticulous planning is key to our approach, ensuring that seating areas, dining spots, entertainment zones, and outdoor living spaces are perfectly placed and sized. We pair this thoughtful design with the finest quality materials and striking specimen feature trees. To add the ultimate wow factor, we incorporate beautiful architectural pots, hidden sound systems, outdoor kitchens, stylish furniture, and the latest garden technology, such as outdoor TVs. This blend of elements defines garden luxury at its finest.
What can clients expect to see from Iconic Landscapes at 1 Sydney Place?
Clients visiting 1 Sydney Place can expect to experience a tranquil and stunning garden created by Iconic Landscapes. Nestled in the heart of Chelsea, the Clive Christian showroom and show garden offer a serene escape from the bustling city, making you feel as though you are in a peaceful oasis.
The garden seamlessly extends the elegance and quality of the showroom furniture to the outdoors, featuring the Clive Christian outdoor kitchen and Sub-Zero & Wolf grill as a central attraction. This outdoor kitchen is not only functional but also a beautiful garden feature.
We have carefully chosen materials that complement each other to maintain a consistent sense of luxury throughout the garden. Limestone paving combined with additional limestone setts creates intricate ground details.
To add a wow factor, we incorporated a variety of striking features. A large limestone water feature provides the soothing sound of flowing water. At the far end of the garden, three tall handcrafted Torc pots stand majestically. A large polished boulder, nestled among mixed plantings, offers a perfect spot to sit under an olive tree and take in the surroundings.
The garden's simple yet thoughtful mix of plants ensures year-round interest. As the sun sets, Hunza garden lighting enhances the feature planting, transforming the garden into an inviting space to enjoy an evening.
What's your favourite aspect of your role at Iconic Landscapes?
My favourite aspect of my role at Iconic Landscapes is the constant evolution of the luxury landscape industry. Over the past 25 years, I've witnessed incredible changes and innovations that keep my work exciting and dynamic. This continuous growth enables us to craft the finest gardens for our clients and install’s a sense of pride in our team. Loving what you do is essential, and it ensures that we always deliver our very best.
What do you consider to be your greatest achievement at Iconic Landscapes?
My greatest achievement at Iconic Landscapes has been founding and growing the company to its current stature. After partnering with various landscaping organizations over the years, I felt compelled to establish my own company to deliver the level of garden design and customer service that I believe clients truly deserve.
Creating Iconic Landscapes has been a fulfilling journey. The remarkable clients we work with, the stunning gardens we create, and the exceptional opportunities we've had—such as our partnership with Clive Christian Interiors —have far surpassed our initial goals for the business at this stage.
Partnering with Clive Christian and creating the show garden at 1 Sydney Place is truly an honour. Clive Christian is a renowned and respected brand, and our collaboration reflects a shared commitment to excellence. Our client bases are similar, making this partnership mutually beneficial and promising for opening new opportunities for both companies. We are thrilled to have a show garden in Chelsea and eagerly anticipate the growth and success of our partnership.
